Water emergencies can come from a variety of sources: broken pipes, backed-up sewers, rivers or creeks bursting their banks, or heavy rains. We can be there quickly with the most effective water restoration tools. There are four things you need to as soon as you discover the water damage. We will expand on these four steps below, including what you need to do before we get there, if possible, and what we’ll do when we get there.

Step One

The first thing that needs to be done is check for hazards. When water is involved, you’ll want to make sure everyone is safe, so check for electricity, downed lines, vulnerable sockets, biohazards, and slip-and-fall possibilities.

Step Two

The next thing you should do is to stop the source. If you need help doing this before we get there, call us and we can walk you through it over the phone.  If the source is a broken pipe, or another internal source, you’ll need to  attempt to shut off the plumbing. If it is a plumbing issue and you have a water manifold system this can be very easy, but if the source is external raging storm waters for instance, stopping the influx can be challenging, but we are very experienced and can help.

Step Three

Starting the water removal process can seem obvious, but having the right equipment to do it safely and efficiently is a skill. The goal is to get the most water out as fast as we can and then launch into mitigation. Do what you can do safely while we are on the way!

Step Four

The next thing you’ll want to do is to remove furniture and any other valuables. Move everything you can to higher ground. If there are inches of water in the room, move as much as you can out of any water. If there is just a little water on the floor you can make cups out of aluminum foil and place them under the legs of furniture. What you want to avoid is furniture sitting in water, acting a sponge for it, and being ruined. Metal feet can rust and veneers can peel off.  Electronics too, should be moved so as to avoid being ruined or causing shock.

Water Damage Mitigation

Once the drama of the initial water damage has passed, we can get down to work to save as much as we can from having to be pulled out and replaced. This means removing as much moisture from the structure as is humanly possible. We do this through dehumidifiers and blowers. The length of this phase of mitigation depends on the level of damage we are looking to skirt. We also offer services such as contents restoration and document drying to help you out on the road to recovery from a water damage disaster.
